Theresa Florez and the Great Chicken & Waffles Debate

The Invitation Theresa Florez stared at the plate in front of her with wide, disbelieving eyes. There, nestled on the white porcelain, was something she had only heard about in whispers and on TV shows from the South chicken and waffles.  Her mother, Serafina, had spent the morning preparing this supposed delicacy. The golden waffles were stacked high, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, with a delicate drizzle of syrup glistening like morning dew. Beside them, the fried chicken sat, its crispy skin crackling slightly under the warm kitchen lights, the aroma of spices filling the room. "Just try them, Theresa," her mother said with a hopeful smile. "You might like them!" Theresa, however, with her arms crossed over her chest. said "Mom, this is insanity. Chicken with waffles?
